In addition to in-studio training, our Ensemble attends several regional conventions and competitions each season. The faculty selects these spring events to extend our dancers education and performance experience. Team level dancers attend one 2-day convention and 1-4 competitions each season. Company level dancers attend up to 2 conventions and 2-5 competitions each season, along with a national competition every other summer.
Aspiring to be a member of the SDD Competition Ensemble? Auditions for the 2024-25 season will be held in July 2024. Please see the Audition Page for details. Dancers should have previous experience in tap, jazz and ballet before auditioning. A strong foundation is important for competition dancers to build upon. Please note experience requirements for each age group.
Summer training is an important time for our Ensemble dancers. To secure their place on the ensemble the next season, dancers must attend their summer minimum enrollment to maintain their training throughout the summer months.

Spezio’s Competition Dancers train in six different Ensemble levels. The SDD Faculty creates the teams to bring together dancers with similar technique levels and strengths. The average age of a group is an important determination as that is the age level the group will compete at. There are many additional factors considered by the faculty when creating or adjusting groups to make the best possible opportunities for the dancers involved.
Ages 8-9, dancers train in the subjects of jazz, tap, ballet and non-performing technique classes. Elective classes include acro and hip hop. Our Prep Team attend classes 2-3 days per week. This team attends one 2-day dance convention and 2-3 competitions in the spring.

Ages 11-13, dancers train in the subjects of jazz, tap, ballet, lyrical, contemporary and non-performing technique classes. Elective classes include acro and hip hop. Our Junior Team attends classes 3-4 days per week. This team attends one 2-day dance convention and 3-4 competitions in the spring. Junior Team also attends a National Competition every other summer. .
Ages 12+, company dancers train at advanced levels in the subjects of jazz, tap, ballet, pointe, lyrical, contemporary, heels, hip hop, non-performing technique classes in addition to small and large group select opportunities. Our company levels attend classes 4 days per week. They attend up to two 2-day dance conventions and 2-5 competitions in the spring. Our Company levels also attend a National Competition every other summer.
SDD Ensemble Dancers go on to succeed in college and lifelong careers, on and off the stage! We are so proud of our alumni, many who have gone on to earn their degrees in dance, and can now be seen teaching, choreographing and performing all over the world! Many alumni members have gone onto to become doctors, nurses, dieticians, teachers, school psychologists, just to name a few! We are so proud of our alumni; they help to prove our saying that SDD dancers turn out better!
